The United States Ambassador to the African Union Mary Beth Leonard presented the Art in Embassies Collection at her official Residence. The event was attended by Ambassadors based in Ethiopia who are also accredited to the AU and UNECA, as well as officials from the African Union Commission. Ambassador Leonard presented the Art in Embassies Collection of William Bullard: Reimagining an American Community of Color (1897–1917): a photographic narrative of African American and Native American migration and resettlement in the aftermath of Emancipation and Reconstruction. The Bullard photographs provided an opportunity to deepen the AU’s understanding of African American’s political and personal use of photography after emancipation.
