United States Donates Two Vehicles to the
African Union's Strategic Planning and
Management Unit

On behalf of the people of the United States, Ambassador to the African Union, H.E. Ambassador Cindy Courville presented to the Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Said Djinnit two new Utility Vehicles valued at fifty thousand dollars (US$50,000) for the use of the African Union’s Strategic Management and Planning Unit (SPMU). 

This donation brings the total United States Government contribution to the Strategic Planning and Management Unit to US$300,000. The hand-over ceremony took place at the Headquarters of the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and was attended by representatives of the African Union and the US Mission to the African Union.

In handing over the keys of the vehicles to Commissioner Djinnit, Ambassador Courville pointed to the strong ties between the United States and the continent of Africa and to the desire of the American people to support the work of the African Union and the Strategic Planning and Management Unit.

During the ceremony, the Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Said Djinnit, thanked the American government for its continued support to the important work of the Strategic Planning and Management Unit and to the AU’s Peacekeeping and Security goals.

The SPMU is responsible for coordinating AU’s peace support operation planning, training and operational support thereby increasing the AU’s capacity to effectively respond to crises and assist in maintaining stability and security on the continent.
