AMISOM/Somalia Fact Sheet

AMISOM is mandated to conduct Peace Support Operations in Somalia that stabilize the current situation in that country, to provide for security and create conditions that facilitate the conduct of humanitarian activities.  Approximately 1500 Ugandan troops have been deployed to Mogadishu.
 
 


AMISOM Rotation Plan Update

  • Burundian AMISOM first battalion mid December 2007 to relieve Ugandan AMISOM contingent
  • Uganda AMISOM rotation (Uganda 2) in February 2008
  • Second Burundian battalion (Burundi 2) in February 2008
  • Ghana AMISOM battalion in March 2008
  • Nigerian AMISOM battalion in May 2008

US Contributions to Somalia in 2007

  1. 2007 Contributions. In 2007 the United States has contributed over $168.2 million to the Somalia overall relief effort. $78.7 million of that total to the AMISOM mission and the remaining $89.5 million in charity and humanitarian related categories. 
  2. AMISOM Expenditure Categories. The US contributions have been allocated on various categories of projects. Specifically,

     Additional Training & Equipment to Uganda and Burundi (ACOTA Program)     $7.0  million
     Additional Monies earmarked for Equipment & Training, logistics support to AMISOM, and security sector reform  $40.0 million

      Total   $81.1 million

     

  3. Non- AMISOM Expenditure Categories. The US contributions not used in the AMISOM mission have been allocated on various categories of projects. Specifically,
